I was inspired for this painting by Laurence Miles' wonderful EDA(Eighth Doctor Adventure- BBC Books) 'Alien Bodies'. In particular, a scene near the end of the story, which I found particularly poignant.

I'm not going to give the ending away. Go dig it out, read and enjoy!

Original painting A4 size, acrylic on card. 2003

That is absolutely beautiful! You captured Paul's likeness perfectly!

Having just finished reading the book in question, I have to say, this is magnificent. The entire scene is beautiful and quiet and almost fittingly small, and I think you've captured that effortlessly here. Needless to say, this probably won't end up the television canon's version of the events in question, though I'd give just about anything for it to be, so thank you for bringing this scene especially to life. Your painting is exquisite.

I READ IT RECENTLY,AND I THINK THIS IS THE BEST OF THE FIRST 6 STORIES IN EDA(COS I READ ONLY THESE 6 AND 'FATHER TIME').I REALLY THINK THE DOCTOR IS AN LONELY OUTSIDER AND HIS ONLY HOME IS HIS TARDIS.HE HAS THE WHOLE UNIVERSE IN TIME AND SPACE BUT STILL CAN'T SEE THE FUTURE.THE START PART OF THE BOOK IS SAD,AND THE MAIN PART IS LIKE A FOLLY,THE END MAKES ME EVEN SADDER.NEVERTHELESS,THE SHORT STORIES BETWEEN THE CHAPTERS IS ALSO VERY GOOD,THOUGH I THINKE THE SHORT STORIES OF 'WAR OF THE DALEKS' IS BETTER ON LANGUAGE.

SJS ASKING THE DOCTOR WHO WOULD BURY HIM IS HEARTBREAKING WHEN YOU KNOW IT'S THE 8TH WHO WAS GOING TO BURY HIS LAST INCARNATION :tears:

That is beautiful. I've always loved the 8th Doctor, especially in that outfit.

You've really captured him, the hair, the waistcoat, that velvet coat, the sleepy looking eyes. A firm but poetic face.

One of the best portraits of this Doctor I've ever seen. Definitely favoriting this.

Oh wow. I read the book and loved it. The ending was... exactly as you say, actually. Poignant. To see it brought to life like this is amazing, especially considering how well done it is. Brilliant! Bravo. I absolutely adore this art.
